My wife, Marion, and I owned a home in Lakewood Ranch that had been available for sale for over four years. We were “upside down” on our mortgage and delinquent in our mortgage payments for over 2 years. This property was a cash drain and a constant source of concern due to a pending foreclosure and routine maintenance and upkeep, as we live 700 miles away. We had listed our home with 3 different agents, two from major national firms and one from a well-recognized regional firm. None of these agents were able to get our home “under contract” and navigate through the tedious and time consuming short sale process to a successful closing.
In January 2011, Marion and I did two things: We had our home professionally staged and listed our home with Betsie Taber of Keller Williams, Lakewood Ranch. I was extremely impressed with Betsie’s performance. She took charge of the situation, informed us what work needed to be done to make our home more marketable, coordinated the staging efforts, arranged to have beautiful pictures taken of the interior and exterior and established a strong, effective presence on the internet. Even though our home had been on the market for years with little or no showing activity, we were inundated with showings after Betsie listed our home. We received a reasonable offer to purchase within the first week. Although this transaction ultimately collapsed (as shortsales often do), I am happy to say that we subsequently received a satisfactory offer, negotiated a settlement with our mortgage company and closed in May 2011.
Needless to say, Marion and I were thrilled with Betsie’s performance and would recommend her to anyone looking to sell or purchase a home in the Brandenton/Sarasota area. I especially liked the fact that Betsie kept us informed throughout the entire process and promptly addressed problems as they arose.
